CatchConnect.

CatchConnect is a Web App and Mobile App platform aimed to connect low-impact fishermen with buyers looking for fresh seafood from the harbor. Fishermen can record their catch as they bring it in from the sea, and buyers can view it and place orders that are filled when the fishermen dock at the port and the buyers pick up their fresh catch.

Wilson, the owner of CatchConnect, has spent the majority of his career in the fishing industry and is regarded as a veteran. Having worked in this industry firsthand, he understands the challenges that small fishermen face when it comes to selling their catch. Wilson wanted to create a platform that would bring fresh and sustainable seafood to everyone's table, as well as help local fishermen who use low-impact fishing methods by giving them direct access to buyers and creating conditions for a better and more sustainable fishing industry in and around Scottish ports. One of the most difficult challenges a small fisherman faces is having to sell his catch for a very low price. In most cases, he had no idea which species were in demand and could fetch him higher prices; he was mainly at the mercy of middlemen to sell his catch. When it comes to the buyer, he had no visibility or trust in the freshness of the catch he would get from the traditional supply chain. Wilson realised there was a need for a platform that would facilitate transactions between fishermen and consumers.

The project helped create a platform that supports local fishermen and promotes sustainable fishing practices, and designed a system that drastically reduced the “Ocean to table” time for local eateries and restaurants. It became a holistic platform that brought value to all the stakeholders and users of the system. CatchConnect created new avenues for fishermen to earn and helped them reduce their dependency on middlemen, while building a brand associated with honesty and sustainability.
