It’s been a while since we have posted about a smartwatch and the wait is over now. There’s a tiny number of smartwatch makers who have kept the Wear OS tradition going. Today we are discussing Mobvoi, an AI organization and the maker of TicWatch series of smartwatches. We are sure that with a new OS, the future of wearables looks promising.
It is apt that Mobvoi should be the pioneer of the smartwatch powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 4100. It is regarded as the best possible solution to Google’s underserved WearOS platform. Mobvoi has launched TicWatch Pro 3 GPS, the company’s third edition smartwatch powered by Snapdragon Wear 4100. Let us discuss the design and specifications, along with price and availability before concluding whether it is worth it.
TicWatch Pro 3 GPS Design
The TicWatch Pro 3 has the same aesthetic design of the TicWatch Pro 2020 and Pro 4G. It upholds the familiar bezel, dual pushers with a two-tone metal against a matte plastic. Moreover, the TicWatch Pro 3’s design seems more evident as you tighten the silicone band.
The first difference is the reduced thickness of the watch when compared to the TicWatch Pro 4G. Now, the TicWatch Pro 3 is still a large watch but the thickness has now been reduced to 12.2mm. This paired with the ultra-light weight (42g) makes the watch much more comfortable on your wrist. Despite the light weight and reduced thickness, Mobvoi has managed to keep the large display which is a signature of the Pro line of TicWatches.
There are tons of benefits of a large display – improves visibility of text, allows more information on the screen and they have retained the visibility in sunlight too. Apart from this there is a small but satisfactory change – a live seconds counter on the display.
TicWatch Pro 3 Performance and Battery
The design improvements are impressive for sure but the most important update is the processor used in the watch. The Pro 3 is undoubtedly the first watch to use the new Snapdragon 4100 processor. The 4100 will improve the performance and battery life significantly when compared to the 2100 SoC used in the previous TicWatch Pro line.
Every function on the Pro 3 is so much faster than the watches running the previous generation chipsets. Everything from animations to opening apps and navigation works smoothly, which will be a plus point for the Pro 3. One major improvement to the TicWatch Pro 3 is the enhanced battery life for the latest version. With the Pro 3, you can get more than 3 days of battery life while using the heart rate monitor and sleep tracking which is impressive.
TicWatch Pro 3 Health Tracking
The TicWatch Pro 3 has a variety of new health sensors to be happy about. It comes with a night infrared static heart rate sensor with non-visible light for better readability, a SpO2 sensor and a barometer. This gives you a chance to track your blood oxygen saturation levels, a vital update during these testing times.
Mobvoi has included the sensor set on the watch to track the surrounding noise, your stress level using SDNN, automatic sleep tracking and SpO2 in the Essential Watch mode. Originally, it was only possible to track time, heart rate and steps in the Essential mode.
Improved Mobvoi Phone app
Mobvoi has made some changes to the phone app with a comprehensive look and feel. It is always good to view all your health data in a single place rather than using two or three separate apps. This is where Mobvoi App has done better than its previous update. With the Mobvoi app, you can view the device name and battery level, your daily steps and exercise stats with exciting watch faces.
Now, it is possible to listen to your audio notes recorded on the watch and convert notes to text easily. Moreover, you can view snapshots from the Pro 3 and a help section to walk you through the app and watch functions. The new phone app provides you a holistic view of your health stats recorded on the Pro 3 smartwatch. You can download the new Mobvoi Phone app to see the results.
TicWatch Pro 3 – Suggestions to improve
We all know, with each and every new update there are some good and bad points to ponder upon. There is always a scope to improve. It is noted that the watch has been trimmed down in terms of size and weight but a large display will be a problem for people with smaller wrists or if someone simply prefers a smaller watch.
Moving on, it would be better if the users are allowed to customize their secondary display screen. For instance, you can view your heart rate on the LCD screen when you exercise. What if you want to allow the watch to display it all the time? These are just minor adjustments and we know Mobvoi will pay heed to all the constructive feedback they receive.
Should you buy the TicWatch Pro 3?
The TicWatch Pro 3 is for you, if you like extraordinary performance and battery life. Usually, these two things don’t gel with each other but the TicWatch Pro 3 has managed to do that. It is a boon for someone who likes to spend their time outside. The revamped Dual Display 2.0 provides a good readability, no matter the lighting conditions. You can also go for this watch if health is your utmost priority in life. With the heart rate monitoring and inclusive SpO2 sensor, the Pro 3 takes your fitness to the next level.
The TicWatch Pro 3 is undoubtedly the best smartwatch right now. Mobvoi has made some upgrades in their software to provide options not available on other Wear OS watches. With the advancement in technology, we are excited to see the changes coming to Wearable App development and Mobile App Development.
