Last week, Xiaomi celebrated its 8th anniversary. At the anniversary celebration function of the compay which was held in Shenzen, China, Xiaomi unveiled several new products are about to be launched by the company. It not only launched smartphones, but also a smartband, a new operating system and also a VR headset. Here are the details.
1) Mi 8
Xiaomi’s new Mi 8 is the company’s first phone with a notch. The Mi 8 features a 6.21-inch OLED screen from Samsung. It wraps around a pretty large notch which fits a 20-megapixel selfie camera. This anniversary special smartphone from the company comes with advanced facial recognition system very similar to the Apple iPhone X. The phone is supported and run by Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 845 processor. The Mi 8 features a new 12-megapixel dual camera setup on the rear which scores 105 on DxOMark. Xiaomi also claims that Mi 8 is going to be the first phone ever to use dual-frequency GPS. It is there is to provide you with a better and more accurate location data.
2) Mi Band 3
Along with a flagship smartphone, Mi is also releasing a new fitness band. If you liked how the Band 2 looked, then you will also like the Band 3, as both have a similar design. There is a 0.78-inch OLED panel on the band which is of a good size. The strap on the Mi Band 3 is interchangeable so you can freely use other designs. The thermoplastic Elastomer makes the band far more comfortable to wear and also feels nice. The color options are hot orange, graphite black, and deep blue. Also, the Mi Band 3 is waterproof up to 50 meters. The band will work with Android 4.4 and iOS 9.0 phones.
3) Mi 8 SE
Another addition to the Mi 8 line-up is the Mi 8 SE. The Mi 8 SE is a much smaller, a bit slower, and a cheaper version of the Mi 8. The Mi 8 SE will be the first phone to use Qualcomm’s brand new mid-range Snapdragon 710 processor. It has a 5.88-inch OLED screen. The Snapdragon 710 processor is said to help in saving about 30% of power consumption over the previous processor. It offers around 20% greater performance. This feature can help Mi 8 SE secure a strong position in the Chinese market. There it will be competing with several expensive phones like Vivo and Oppo.
4) MiUi 10
The new MiUi10 will be made available on a number of Mi smartphones. It comes with new features and some major design changes. There are a few AI-based features and it also takes advantage of the full screen bezel. AI will help bring portrait mode to several phones. It will also help in app loading time. There will be full screen gestures and you would be able to delete tasks, and a long press will show you more options. There is also a car mode that helps you with navigation. You can use voice commands to change the route. Instant messaging and incoming calls can also be answered.
5) Mi VR Standalone
Earlier this year, Mi had announced that it is working with Oculus in order to create a VR headset. This headset is powered by QualComm Snapdragon 821. It also has a 3 GB of RAM and a Fast Switch LCD display. There are Fresnel lenses in the display, designed by Oculus. For the VR headset, you get two storage options, one is a 32 GB and the other is 64 GB. It supports 3DoF and comes with a motion controller. It also has built-in 360 degree sound capability. It already offers a library of over 100 video games and apps, these can be accessed through Oculus store.
This year Xiaomi is celebrating its 8th anniversary and so at the celebration it announced the above mentioned devices. Some of the devices are already available for pre order while other will take time. Also there are some devices that will only be available in China for little while. But we are going to wait for it.
