Xiaomi Mi 6X Features 18:9 Display and Dual-rear Cameras

Xiaomi Mi 6X

After weeks of speculation, Xiaomi has finally revealed the device the were going to launch. Xiaomi just very recently announced the Mi 6X. Xiaomi took the wraps off its new mid-range smartphone in an event held in China. The new Mi 6X is the successor to the Mi 5X launched last year. The successor definitely brings some advancements and improvements to the table.

In China, the Mi 5X ran on Android OS with MIUI skin on top. While in India it was launched as Mi A1 and it ran on stock Android One OS. So the new Mi 6X is expected to launch as Mi A2 in India with Android One OS. The new Mi 6X is launched with dual cameras. Xiaomi also claims that this phone will outshine other competing devices like Oppo R15 and Apple iPhone X.

A sleek design

The new Xiaomi Mi 6X has a sleek design and is just 7.3 mm thick, and weighs about 166 grams. For an easier and a comfortable grip, it has a smooth curve finished back. The IR blaster on the top of the phone allows you to control some electronic devices at home like the air conditioner, television, the DVD player etc.

Snapdragon 660 and 18:9 display

With the Mi 6X, Xiaomi has started using the 18:9 display in the middle of its range. This has been noticed specifically after the launch of more affordable smartphones like Redmi 5 series and Mi Mix S2. The Mi 6X features an 18:9 2160 x 1080 LCD. But it still has the thick bezels on the top and bottom of the display. It has also been revealed that the Mi 6X comes with a Snapdragon 660 octa-core SoC. It was first expected to be the Snapdragon 636 when the rumours were making rounds in the market. Xiaomi says the chipset offers 20 percent better performance compared to the Snapdragon 636 SoC. Also, it gives 79 percent better performance compared to the Snapdragon 625 SoC.

Dual cameras, no headphone jack

The Xiaomi Mi 6X also features a dual camera setup. It has a 20-megapixel main sensor and a 20-megapixel selfie camera with a flash. The dual camera lenses are vertically placed at the back, while the LED flash module is placed between both the lenses. It also features a fingerprint sensor on the rear for biometric authentication. It features a USB-C port. The USB Type-C port is winged by the speaker grills on both the sides. But just like the new iPhone X, it has no headphone jack to connect your headsets with it. This is indeed a courageous move. After Apple made that move, a lot of smartphone companies thought of it to be a bad idea, but slowly and steadily they have also started adopting it.

Interesting AI chops

Xiaomi has also added AI chops in the software. This is for scene detection which can identify from 206 different scenes. It includes food mode, text, greenery, sky, beach, snow, cats and dogs to name a few. The second camera sensor comes with a telephoto lens. It allows 2X lossless optical zoom and DSLR-like bokeh effects to your photos. Just like the rear cameras, the front camera also supports AI scene detection mode. The camera is optimized to detect 12 self-portrait scenes to help you capture good-looking selfies.

Powerful battery

The smartphone comes with a 3,010mAh battery. The phone also supports Quick Charge 3.0. Xiaomi is also bundling an 18W fast charger. It can take the smartphone from empty state to 50 percent in just 30 minutes. There is also AI smart power saving mode to help you get a full day worth battery backup. A fingerprint sensor at the back is not the only way to unlock the Mi 6X. The Mi 6X also supports AI face unlock feature. In the software department, the smartphone runs Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box.
