Dell Precision 5530: A powerful 2-in-1 Workstation with Coffee Lake CPU

Dell Precision 5530

Dell has recently added a number of updates to some of its business laptops. It also includes the new 15-inch Precision 5530. The Precision 5530 is basically a business-oriented, professional version of the XPS 15. There are two new models of the Precision 5530, just like the XPS 15. The first one is a standard clamshell while the second one is a 2-in-1 version that can easily convert into a tablet.

Two versions of the Precision 5530

The 2-in-1 version of Precision 5530 is a bit more interesting than the standard Precision 5530 because it takes the XPS 15 2-in-1 and makes changes to it with some improvements for professional graphic users. To be more specific, it trades the hybrid Intel processor with onboard AMD Radeon RX Vega M graphics with the integrated Radeon Pro WX Vega M GL graphics.

The Dell Precision 5530 has another standard, non-convertible version which comes with a 4K screen. It boasts of improved contrast ratios and IGZO 4 display options. This notebook features a Nvidia Quadro P2000. It features up to 32GB of 2666MHz system RAM, and up to 4TB of SSD storage.

Storage and optimal pen support

Dell’s Precision 5530 can be configured with up to 16GB of RAM with up to 2 TB of NVMe SSD storage. Just like the clamshell model, the 2-in-1 model features a 15.6-inch, 4K InfinityEdge display. It comes with 100 percent Adobe RGB coverage. Also, there is the added bonus of optional pen support, thanks to its 2-in-1 nature. Apart from those changes, it is still a very similar device to the XPS 15 2-in-1 that people have already seen from Dell.

Dell’s premium Pen

The Precision 5530 2-in-1 has a 360-degree hinge. It also comes with stylus support. Not to forget a rather nifty InfinityEdge 4K display. That touch display supports 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity for Dell’s Premium Pen. Dell’s Premium Pen also promises low latency. This means that the sketching-on-the-screen experience is as close to scribbling on paper.

Latitude laptops

Dell introduced a pair of new Latitude laptops. These are the Latitude 5491 and 5591. These laptops have been slimmed down to shrink their footprint by 30% over the last three generations. These laptops offer up to 19 hours of battery life. Also, they have 8th-gen Intel Core vPro CPUs with Nvidia graphics. They are said to come with up to 32GB of system memory.

The Precision 3530, 7730 and 7530 mobile workstations will also have access to Intel’s Xeon processors. Not just that, they will also have access to Nvidia Quadro P600 professional graphics.

Eighth generation Coffee Lake Processors

Dell has also given a twist to its OptiPlex range of all-in-one PCs and desktops. The twist includes eighth-generation Coffee Lake processors available and new graphics options. It’s also going to be the same for the workhorse Latitude laptops. The new Latitude 5491 and 5591 will be smaller than older members of the Dell family. They also have been given access to the latest processors and Nvidia GPUs.

Powerful Core i9 processor

Port selection is up to scratch as well. The 2-in-1 comes with two Thunderbolt 3 and USB Type-C ports, DisplayPort, a headphone jack and a microSD card reader. Dell is updating its whole Precision line up with Intel’s latest Coffee Lake chips. It is going right up to the powerful Core i9 processor, as well as professional graphics running up to Nvidia’s Quadro P2000.

Should be available in August

While all these notebooks will be available from Dell on May 22, the Precision 5530 2-in-1 won’t arrive until late August. If everything works as planned, this 15.6-inch mobile workstation should hit the market soon, with a starting price of US$1,449. It is available in Platinum Silver and Brushed Onyx colors. The 15.6-inch Dell Precision 5530 is the brand’s smallest mobile workstation.
