Few Big Announcements from Google’s Pixel Event

Google events don’t usually show the same amount of crazy fanfare like Apple’s events does. But the announcements this year are pretty interesting and for both Google enthusiasts and anybody who likes new shiny gadgets.

The Google event took place last week in the city of New York, where the company unveiled its Pixel phones, a new version of Pixel tablet, a smart display, and several other devices. These new updates about the devices and their software will come in handy for the android app developers.

Let’s take a look at all the announcements made at the event.

New Pixel Phones

There were already many rumors making rounds about the new Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL. Both the new phone has a larger screen-to-body ratio than the older ones. Also, the features an edge-to-edge display and come with a glass front and back side. The hardware on both the phones is pretty much the same. Both the phones are available with 64GB and 128GB storage options.

The new Pixel phones have wireless charging features and are also IP68 rated for water resistance. The front camera on both the phones is 8 megapixel while the rear camera is 12.2 megapixels with Optical Image Stabilization. The camera features include Night Sight low light mode, high-resolution zoom, and a PhotoBooth Mode.

Pixel Slate- Is that a Chromebook or a tablet?

It’s quite difficult to figure out whether the new Pixel Slate is a Chromebook or a tablet. But what’s important is that it can easily function as both those devices, so that should work. The Pixel Slate works on Chrome OS. There is a Pixel Slate keyboard that is sold separately which can be paired up with it. The Pixel Slate features a Molecular Display screen. You can either take a video call on the wide front facing the camera or use it to scribble using the Pixelbook Pen.

The Pixel Slate is also said to feature dual front-facing speakers. It also has two USB-C ports and a fingerprint sensor. Also, it has no headphone jack, so it’s good that it has at least the USB-C ports. It will be available with Intel Core m3 processors. It offers 256GB of storage. The Pixel Slate will soon be released for sale.

Google Home Hub

The new Google Home Hub was announced right after the Facebook portal and is said to a smart display. It can be integrated with Google Photos and be used as a smart photo frame, a visual device for your Google Assistant, and also another screen to view YouTube. The Home Hub is already available for pre-order and will be shipped on 22nd October.

Machine Learning

Google has added a few machine learning enhancements to its Assistant. The Pixel 3 camera will feature some new machine learning tricks like Top Shot, Super Res Zoom, and Night Sight. There is machine learning even on the dialer on Pixel 3. Pixel 3 will be able to screen your calls and shoo away the spammers without having to talk to them. The Google Home Hub has a Google Photo features called Live Albums. Another feature is Recent Highlights.

Other Updates

This year’s Google event was not just about the hardware, but also about machine learning and how it is going to be added to the devices. This offers the users with the ability to gather different tasks of the day in just a single tap and get done with those all together.

The android app developers must specifically look into the new integration of the machine learning feature. Google didn’t really go into too much detail about the other things. But according to the Play Store, there is a Chromecast and USB-C earbuds available.
