Top 6 Announcements from Apple’s iPhone 12 event 2020

Finally, we can say 2020 has some exciting news. Apple fans, all over the world can now rejoice and marvel at the launch of the new iPhone 12 series. This year though, we had to wait a tad bit longer than the previous years due to the obvious reasons. It feels as if it’s been ages since we did a piece on the rumoured specifications of the iPhone 12 series. Since then we have done three more articles on Apple’s online events including the much acclaimed “Time Flies” Event 2020. Now, we are back to discuss the “Hi Speed” event from last night.

Last night, Apple announced the four model iPhone 12 series. We can safely say that it’s the first major design shift after 2017’s iPhone X. The recent iPhone line up is available in four colours, more models and 5G wireless support. At last, Apple too, has joined the 5G bandwagon. Let us look at the top announcements from Apple’s “Hi Speed” Event 2020.

iPhone 12 with 5G compatibility

The new iPhone 12 has a cool design with flat edges that reminds you of iPhone 4 and iPhone 5. It is a standard 6.1 inch iPhone with two rear cameras supporting night mode. The iPhone 12 and the entire series will have 5G support. Additionally, the iPhone 12 series has a ceramic Shield glass cover on the screen for more durability. You can pre-order the iPhone 12 on October 16th for $829 as the official release date is October 23. The iPhone 12 has an astonishing battery life of upto 17 hours of video playback, 11 hours of streaming video playback or 65 hours of audio playback.

iPhone 12 Mini – A compact device

If you are happy with a smaller screen size and a more affordable phone, iPhone 12 mini should be your best bet. It has a 5.4 inch screen and similar specifications to the iPhone 12. There is 5G support as well as the same battery life as that of the iPhone 12. You can pre-order the Mini on Nov 6 for $729 and it will be available on Nov 13.

iPhone 12 Pro Max – Biggest iPhone Ever

Apple has introduced their biggest iPhone ever – the iPhone 12 Pro Max. It has a 6.7 inch screen with three back cameras that provide a 5X optical zoom range. Additionally, there is a LIDAR sensor for faster autofocus and AR apps along with a stainless steel outer band. You can pre-order this beauty on Nov 6 for $1099 and it will be released on Nov 13.

Moreover, Apple is releasing a 6.1 inch iPhone 12 Pro which will be available for $999. You can pre-order on Oct 16 before the Oct 23 release date.

New HomePod Mini

The latest HomePod mini is a bit smaller than the original version with a rounded shape. It looks more like a restaurant candle. Similar to the previous model, the Mini has touch controls on the top, Siri integration and comes in space gray and white colours. It runs on the S5 chip which was introduced in the Apple Watch Series 5. The HomePod mini is priced at $99 and will be available from Nov 16 but you can pre-order it on Nov 6.

Reintroduction of MagSafe

We are happy to see the reintroduction of Magsafe charging. It has a revamped form of wireless charging pads for the iPhone 12 series. There are two available options: a MagSafe charger to charge one device at a time and a MagSafe Charger Duo to charge two devices at a time. The Duo includes a flip-up spot to charge your Apple Watch too, how thoughtful. The new iPhone 12 cases will have a magnet inside which can enable MagSafe charging.

Goodbye Charger and Headphones

We saw this coming, when the rumours started erupting that Apple might ditch the charger and headphones to reduce shipping costs by making a smaller box. The same thing happened to the wall charger of the Apple Watch previously. So, the new iPhone 12 series will not have a wall charger and wired earphones, though it will have a USB-C to Lightning cable. We were hoping that the price of the iPhone will go down if Apple is ditching the charger and headphones but well we might be wrong.

Wrapping Up

The new iPhone 12 series is set to launch on October 16 in the United States, Australia, Japan, China, UK, Germany and more than 40 other countries and regions. It has been a challenging year for many companies and time will tell how Apple fares with the iPhone 12 series.
